Visio Template to Represent Dollar Universe Jobs

Visio template using Visio Smart Shapes to display how processes run.

Description

This is a Visio template using Visio Smart Shapes to display how processes run. In this example a virtual Session made up of several Uprocs is used.

The data that the Uprocs use is taken from the corresponding spreadsheet which contains the data start time, end time, elapsed time, failures and whether the Uproc was run or not.

The shapes will adjust their scale to fit 1 page the boundaries of which are determined by the start time of the TEST1_B Uproc and end time of the TEST1_E Uproc. Those times are also displayed in the time bars at the side of the diagram.

The data in the spreadsheet is linked to the shapes. The shapes will automatically redraw themselves depending on elapsed time so it is very easy to see which Uproc or process took the longest time. If a change is done to the spreadsheet then just refresh the Visio diagram to make the shapes redraw.

If the Visio sheet is saved as a Web page then by selecting a shape and click and press and a summary of the data for that shape can be seen.

The data for the excel can be extracted from a number of different sources including Univiewer with its handy copy to csv option.

Implementation

Visio professional 2007 is a minimum requirement as smart shapes are required to run. A suitable data source in this case Excel 2007 was used.

Download the zip file and place the files in the C drive. Open the Visio sheet and the excel sheet. Alter the data in the excel sheet and refresh the Visio sheet to see the shapes redraw themselves.
